The little hippo Moo Deng is going viral and not only capturing the hearts of some zoo visitors. In the crypto world, an eponymous Memecoin is creating excitement.
A new memecoin star is born: MOODENG. This token is inspired by the dwarf hippo of the same name, which was born in Thailand a few weeks ago. While the cute hippo is mesmerizing many zoo visitors there and going viral via livestreams, it is also generating huge profits for some crypto-traders.
According to Lookonchain data, a trader of just $800 made as much as $9.4 million in two weeks by betting on the MOODENG memecoin.
MOODENG has increased in value 10 times since Sept. 20 and reached a new record last Saturday. This makes Memecoin the most successful token on Pump.Fun, the controversial launchpad on Solana. However, not everyone who traded the token managed to make such breathtaking gains. For example, a few days ago it was revealed that a trader sold MOODENG too early, missing out on a US$6.3 million profit.
Despite the sharp drop in memecoin activity, the prices of established players in the crypto market have managed to recover in recent weeks. Dogwifhat (WIF), for example, trades above two dollars again thanks to a 40 percent price increase since last week.
Memecoins could thus make a comeback in the coming months. Murad, one of the most successful crypto-traders ever, outlined his vision of a "Memecoin Supercycle" in 2025 at the Token2049 conference in Singapore.
