Ondo Finance Expands Tokenized Investment Products With Former Invesco Executive

Key Takeaways

  • Ondo Finance names John Hoffman, a former Invesco and Grayscale executive, as managing director and head of product portfolios.
  • Hoffman will develop and distribute tokenized portfolios and investment strategies on blockchain.
  • The tokenized assets market is growing fast; Ondo is expanding into tokenized stocks and manages more than $1 billion.

Ondo Finance is taking another step in the development of tokenized investment products with the appointment of John Hoffman, former Invesco ETF leader and Grayscale executive. Hoffman will join Ondo as managing director and head of product portfolios, with a focus on shifting from individual tokenized assets to full investment portfolios and strategies on blockchain.

Expansion of tokenized portfolios

With nearly 20 years of experience at Invesco, where he led ETF and index strategies across the Americas, and a key role at Grayscale Investments, Hoffman brings a lot of experience to the table. His job will be to develop and distribute tokenized portfolios, including bundled investment baskets in partnership with asset managers and strategies built on top of Ondo's existing products. This shows Ondo's ambition to go beyond tokenizing individual stocks or government bonds and move toward managed investment products that run fully onchain.

Growth of the tokenized asset market

The tokenized assets market is growing fast, with its size nearly tripling over the past year and now topping $30 billion (€26 billion). Major financial institutions like BlackRock and Franklin Templeton have also launched tokenized Treasury products, which is helping drive adoption of the technology. Ondo Finance itself has already built a strong position with tokenized Treasury products like OUSG and USDY, and it recently expanded into tokenized stocks through Ondo Global Markets, with more than $1 billion (€0.9 billion) in total assets under management spread across more than 250 stocks and ETFs.

Why This Matters for European Investors

The development of tokenized investment products on blockchain could also be interesting for European investors. By making it possible to manage portfolios and strategies onchain, transactions can be more efficient, and investors may get faster and more transparent access to a range of assets. This fits into broader trends in the European financial sector, where digitalization and tokenization are gaining more ground, which could point to a bigger role for products like these in the future.
