She’s one of the world’s most wanted criminals. But according to new evidence, OneCoin founder Ruja Ignatova, also known as the "crypto queen," could have been dead for a long time.
Where is the crypto queen? To this day, the fate of the age-old fraudster remains a mystery. She stole four billion dollars with OneCoin between 2014 and 2017, after which Ruja Ignatova disappeared without a trace. Today she’s one of the ten most-wanted criminals in the world. Intelligence agencies and journalists are tracking her trail. But she could be dead, possibly as early as 2018, according to new evidence.
According to the Bulgarian investigative site Bird, new documents have surfaced. They were found in the estate of a Bulgarian police chief who was killed in 2022. They are statements from a money launderer. He claims Bulgarian gangsters killed Ruja Ignatova on her yacht, cut her body into pieces, and dumped it in the Ionian Sea.
The crypto queen Has Not Been Declared Dead
The theory is old and controversial: Crypto Xpose, a Twitter account dedicated to the fraud case, writes about it: "It’s possible this happened. But there’s no real evidence." So far, Bulgarian police have not declared Ruja Ignatova dead. Another theory is that Ignatova went into hiding in Russia. On a private yacht in the Black Sea, with her face surgically altered. Others suspect the Bulgaria-born woman is hiding in a private home in Dubai.
Ruja Ignatova is behind one of the biggest crypto scams of all time with OneCoin. Wild parties in Bulgaria and London. Rooms full of money, private pawns, and defrauded customers, around the world. Europol and the FBI put Ruja Ignatova on their lists of the world’s most wanted criminals in June 2022, alongside serial killers, terrorists and drug cartel bosses.
In numerous countries, investigations into OneCoin are underway. In Darmstadt and Bielefeld, trials are being held against alleged accomplices. They are accused of taking part in fraud and money laundering of millions of dollars. A verdict is pending. Her ex-boyfriend Gilbert Armena was sentenced this month to five years in prison, according to Bloomberg. He allegedly laundered $300 million for OneCoin.
