Polygon gears up for the most complex hard fork yet

Polygon is gearing up for a new scaling upgrade. On Thursday the network will get a major upgrade: Heimdall v2. This update should deliver a substantial performance boost for the blockchain.

One of the biggest improvements is in how new blocks are processed. Thanks to the upgrade process, block finality is brought down to about five seconds, which benefits network speed.

The upgrade also promises a safer cross-chain bridge mechanism.

"This is the technically most complex hard fork Polygon Proof-of-Stake has undergone since its launch in 2020," View post on X Sandeep Nailwal, CEO of the Polygon Foundation, on X.

According to Nailwal, this upgrade will definitively clean up all the "technical legacies" from the old version of Polygon dating back to 2018–2019.

During the rollout, there may be temporary disruptions. Transaction finality may be delayed by up to three hours, Nailwal warns.

The crypto market is already reacting positively. POL, the successor to MATIC in the revamped ecosystem, is up about three percent from yesterday. At time of writing it's around $0.20, up nearly nine percent over the past week.
