Jenson is expected to help Polymarket scale in the U.S., where the platform is looking for room to grow again after a CFTC settlement. The prediction market runs on USDC and Polygon.

Polymarket Names Former Amazon Executive Warren Jenson as CFO

Key Takeaways

  • Polymarket names Warren Jenson, former CFO of Amazon, as its first chief financial officer.
  • Jenson will lead Polymarket's finance organization, capital strategy, and long-term planning.
  • With this hire, Polymarket wants to scale faster as it expands its regulated U.S. exchange and global platform.

Polymarket has appointed Warren Jenson as its first chief financial officer. The veteran, who previously served as CFO at Amazon, will lead the company's finance organization, capital strategy, and long-term planning.

First CFO for Polymarket

Jenson reports to founder and CEO Shayne Coplan, who called him a “true legend” in a post on X. According to Polymarket, the new CFO is meant to help the company scale faster as it continues building out its regulated U.S. exchange while also growing its global platform.

The appointment comes at a time when Polymarket is once again leaning hard into the U.S. market. The company had been largely sidelined there since a settlement with the CFTC in 2022, after it was required to block U.S. users. In January 2022, the regulator also fined Polymarket $1.4 million (€1.2 million) for running an unregistered derivatives exchange.

Rules and Growth

Polymarket lets users trade on the outcome of future events with USDC. Transactions are recorded and settled on the Polygon blockchain. The platform drew wide attention during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, but since then it has moved beyond politics and is now also focusing more heavily on sports markets.

That puts the company in more direct competition with established betting platforms like DraftKings and FanDuel. For European crypto readers, the big takeaway is that Polymarket shows how blockchain-based prediction markets are increasingly trying to operate within tighter rules in the U.S. That makes the role of an experienced financial executive more important, especially now that the company has to manage both compliance and scaling at the same time.

The broader prediction markets space is also under pressure from stricter rules. In the United Kingdom, regulators recently spoke with trading platforms about a possible easing of the ban on retail prediction markets, while users are already moving to foreign players like Polymarket and Kalshi.

Experienced Executive

Jenson previously also led finance at Nielsen, where he was responsible for finance, strategy, technology, and corporate development. Before that, he was president of LiveRamp, where he oversaw the financial operations and international expansion. He currently sits on the boards of Ripple, Dropbox, and DigitalOcean.
