Ripple scores a milestone win against the SEC

Ripple gets key documents in the case against the SEC. This strengthens the company's position in court. The SEC had to hand over several key documents to Ripple, the so-called "Hinman files". This was decided by a judge in September 2022.

William Hinman was the director of the U.S. financial regulator SEC in 2018. At the time, he stated in a speech that "Ethereum is sufficiently decentralized" to have no effect. The contents of the documents may not be released at the SEC's request yet.

Ripple, however, is pleased: "It was worth fighting for," tweeted Stuart Alderoty, the company's attorney. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse took it further: "When the truth comes out, you'll be shocked at how shameful their conduct in this case is."

Ripple has been in court with the SEC since 2020. The SEC's accusation: the company sold unregistered securities at the time. Similar lawsuits are now being filed against many crypto firms like Binance. Many see the Ripple case as a decisive battle over the securities issue.
