In a recent View post on X from the Crypto Update on Der Aktionär TV, Tokentus CEO Oliver Michel leaves no doubt: he sees Ripple as a potential world reserve currency. According to Michel, XRP could grow into “the connecting element between digital currencies and traditional fiat systems”—a globally usable settlement asset that links national currencies in real time and independently.

His message is clear: “Ripple is ready with its offering. And when the right moment arrives, it can absolutely become the world’s bridge currency.”

Ripple as a link between CBDCs

Michel points to Ripple's strong position in partnerships with banks and fintechs — an edge over many Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) initiatives that are still in their infancy. In a future financial ecosystem, XRP could act as an intermediary between diverse digital currencies, especially between CBDCs, and possibly in tokenizing real-world assets like real estate or commodities.

XRP Ledger: scalable and fast

Ripple’s technology, including the XRP Ledger and On-Demand Liquidity (ODL), offers a robust and scalable network that has proven itself in the institutional payments world. The protocol is designed with low latency and high efficiency, ideal for real-time cross-border transactions — something traditional systems still lag behind.

Ripple has positioned itself for years as one of the most mature blockchain infrastructures in the crypto industry. While many projects target consumers, Ripple leans into institutional players: banks, payment processors, and fintechs. The token XRP currently has a market cap of $187 billion and has risen 57% since the start of the year.

Rules remain a hurdle

Still, the path isn't without obstacles. The ongoing lawsuit with the U.S. securities regulator SEC hangs over the project like a dark cloud. The case, which centers on whether XRP is a security, still poses a major legal risk. But insiders say a breakthrough could finally be on the horizon.
