Sam Bankman-Fried's lawyers face major hurdles

To meet the court's bail conditions, Sam Bankman-Fried wouldn't have access to his parents' smartphones. But installing monitoring software is causing the lawyers headaches.

In a brief to the court, they explain: "We recently learned that the monitoring software installed on the new cellphones we bought for Mr. Bankman-Fried's parents doesn't actually automatically check every five minutes whether the device user can take photos."

The lawyers are therefore exploring "alternative solutions" to monitor the smartphones of the FTX founder and his parents. Additionally, they asked the presiding judge, Lewis Kaplan, for an extension of the case timeline. It's the third request since the original order. Kaplan agreed to extend the deadline to April 21 this year.

As part of the bail terms, Bankman-Fried may use his laptop to prep for the October trial. Also, certain sites for personal use would still be allowed, including Netflix, Spotify, or online delivery services. On the other hand, most apps and websites used for private communication are excluded.
