Blockchain company Stratis Group Ltd has released two products for developing smart contracts in C#. Using the popular programming language, developers can now write smart contracts for Microsoft's .NET Framework. With .NET, apps can be built across multiple platforms.

The introduction of Cirrus Sidechain Masternodes and Stratis Smart Contracts in C# marks a major milestone, Stratis announced on its corporate website. Stratis is the world's first blockchain to give businesses and developers the ability to execute smart contracts on Microsoft's .NET framework. Microsoft's .NET is a free developers platform for building apps. On the open-source platform, developers can write in C#, F# or Visual Basic. Microsoft launched the .NET Framework in 2002. It also includes Windows-specific APIs and is optimized for building Windows desktop applications.

The Cirrus Sidechain introduction was preceded by a two-week community testing phase. During this period, masternode operators could familiarize themselves with how a sidechain masternode works and the Cirrus Sidechain features. The Cirrus Sidechain expands functionality for companies operating on the Stratis platform. It includes the first platform for smart contracts built entirely in C# on the .NET framework. This combines the enterprise's most popular programming language with the most-used framework.

Easy to scale

The main benefits of the Cirrus sidechain are the safety and scalability of smart contracts. Stratis sidechains are designed to prevent the bloat of smart contracts on the Stratis blockchain. They are also believed to offer protection against all negative effects that can occur during smart contract execution. Additionally, sidechain parameters can be optimized to improve transaction performance.

Now, with the latest version, two new wallets are available for end users. First, Stratis Core has been updated to fully support transfers to the Cirrus sidechain and to integrate the latest Stratis Full Node. With the second, the Cirrus Core wallet, users can create and manage a wallet, interact with smart contracts, provision smart contracts, and make transfers to the Stratis blockchain.
