Solana network hits a record with a catch
The Solana network delivered an impressive demonstration of its capacity this weekend.

The Solana network gave this weekend an impressive demonstration of its capacity. According to Mert Mumtaz, cofounder of the Solana development platform Helius, the blockchain peaked Sunday at more than 100,000 transactions per second (TPS).
But there’s an important nuance. The majority of these transactions weren’t real token transfers, but so-called “Noop” instructions (No-Operation) – transactions that don’t cause a change in the blockchain status. The record mostly shows what the network could theoretically handle, but doesn’t directly reflect performance under real conditions.
Mumtaz did emphasize that the results suggest Solana could theoretically reach 80,000 to 100,000 TPS even during normal activities like token transfers or Oracle updates.
In practice, Solana remains well below that peak. Data from block explorer Solscan shows current network traffic around 3,600 TPS. That includes the so-called vote transactions that validators use to reach consensus. Excluding those, you’re left with a true transaction speed of a little over 1,000 TPS.
In short: Solana once again proved its potential as a high-speed blockchain, but the record is, for now, mostly a theoretical milestone.
