Sony launches new sensors for VR and the Metaverse

With the new motion-capture wearable "Mocopi," Sony is launching its first product for further development in VR and the Metaverse. The Japanese tech company stated this earlier in a press release.

According to the company, Mocopi consists of six bands that a user can wear on the ankles, wrists, head, and hips. It also comes with a dedicated smartphone app and a software development kit (SDK). The "recorded motion data" can be linked to Metaverse services and 3D development software using this kit, according to the company.

Sony Japan explains: "This SDK [...] facilitates the development of new services in areas like the Metaverse and fitness." Sony: "Mocopi creates very accurate motion measurements with a small number of sensors and makes life easier for virtual YouTubers and developers involved in film and animation productions."

The provisional release date is planned for late January 2023. In the meantime, the crypto space is not new territory for Sony. It already filed patent applications in 2018 to use blockchain technology.
