The Next Ten Years Are Critical for Crypto, According to Vitalik Buterin

Earlier this week, Vitalik Buterin spoke at the ETHSeoul conference. Here he talked about the future of Ethereum and what he expects from crypto developments. He's optimistic, but noted there are still major challenges ahead.

"I think crypto over the next ten years has to move away from promises toward practical use," said the cofounder of Ethereum. Applications must prove their value to the masses, he said. In theory, many applications look promising, but today they’re not practical due to scaling problems.

Vitalik Buterin also gave a look ahead at the future shape of Ethereum. After the approaching "merger," the network is "55 percent" ready, he said. "After the big events - you know, the Merge, the Surge, the Purge, the Verge, the Splurge - Ethereum will basically be at a point where the protocol doesn’t need to be changed anymore. Everything can be done on Layer 2." Discover what Ethereum has in store with the shift of the consensus mechanism from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS) in this blog.
