The creators of the SafeMoon token tried to stoke demand for the dubious cryptocurrency with a special kind of marketing campaign. For the second time, they put up outdoor ads in Times Square in New York.

The controversial memecoin, however, can’t buck the overall negative trend in the crypto market. SFM is down 2 percent on the daily chart.

The project, operating as a token on the Binance Smart Chain, is 90 percent away from its all-time high. Nonetheless, the marketing push is catching attention on Twitter. Since Sunday, February 5, the hashtags #Safemoon and #Safemoonarmy have been trending.

Critics accuse the project of security flaws and question SafeMoon's use case.
