Was the Polygon network offline?

Yesterday, Wednesday, February 22, Polygon's Blockchain Explorer went down. The outage at PolygonScan gave the impression that no transactions were taking place. A View post on X spread on crypto Twitter that the Polygon blockchain itself had crashed.

Co-founder of the Ethereum scaling solution, Sandeep Nailwal, View post on X: "It looks like Polygonscan is having some issues. In the meantime you can use OKLink Explorer."

The outage occurred because "some nodes were no longer syncing," according to Polygon node infrastructure provider Rivet. This was due to an "unusually large block reorganization." Small block reorganizations are however common on Polygon and other Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-based networks, Rivet said.

The outage had little impact on Polygon's stock price. At the time of press, MATIC was trading at $1.39 and was up 3.3% over the past 24 hours. Polygon recently cut jobs. About 100 employees - 20 percent of the staff - had to leave the company as part of a restructuring.
