World Liberty Financial: Is this Donald Trump's DeFi project?

The rumor mill is in full swing—is the Trump family launching its own DeFi project? CoinDesk has taken a look at the whitepaper for World Liberty Financial.

As Coinbase notes, World Liberty Financial shows clear similarities to Dough Finance. This is a blockchain protocol that was recently hit by a $2.1 million hack. In addition to the four Dough Finance developers, three people from the Trump family are involved in the project, including 18-year-old Barron Trump.

Rumor has it a token called WLFI will be launched with the project. It’s not known when World Liberty Financial will go live online. There is no official confirmation that the Trump family is involved, but there have been repeated hints in that direction. For example, on August 22, Donald Trump Jr. posted a View post on X with a link to the World Liberty Financial Telegram group.

Donald Trump has also been linked to the project. The presidential candidate posted a video on X that ends with the World Liberty Financial emblem.

Meanwhile, fake online profiles of World Liberty Financial are circulating, briefly pitched by daughter-in-law Lara and daughter Tiffany Trump. It turned out the X profiles were hacked and the links didn’t lead to World Liberty Financial (which still has no token), but to a scam. On X, World Liberty Financial wrote: “The X accounts of Lara and Tiffany Trump have been hacked. DO NOT click links and DO NOT buy tokens shared from their profiles. We’re actively working to fix this." The posts have since been removed.

Donald Trump is viewed as the favorite candidate from a crypto perspective. In a two-hour interview with Elon Musk in mid-August, the word Bitcoin wasn’t mentioned once.
