Zilliqa launches its own web 3.0 console with an integrated wallet that can also be used to mine tokens. The pre-sale starts in 2023.

Blockchain and gaming have been a one-sided romance so far. Still, Zilliqa is focusing on the interface; a console has to get the balance right: Web 3.0, gaming, and mining in one — can it work?

Earning money while gaming

As a multimedia interface, the Zilliqa console will not only enable betting and streaming. Mining should also be possible. With an integrated wallet, the earned tokens can be instantly converted to fiat. Play-to-earn fans should get value for their money.

But does this apply to gaming enthusiasts? Blockchain games have so far lagged behind the "conventional" video game market in quality. The announcement of play-to-earn games has produced a number of disappointing titles that, at best, could pass for mobile games. It remains to be seen whether the standard will improve with the Zilliqa console.

The selection would mainly comprise in-house produced games. "But the potential to add other blockchains to the platform to improve interoperability and overall Marketplace growth has been discussed," said Valentin Cobelea, Head of Gaming Technology at Zilliqa. In other words, the console is meant to represent as broad a Web 3.0 gaming portfolio as possible, including third-party providers.

Zilliqa console to hit the market in 2023

The Zilliqa console may not match the latest generation of consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but it should deliver high performance. According to Cobelea, the console features an Nvidia 1650 graphics card and an Intel i9 processor. The framerate is expected to be 60 FPS, with a 1440p resolution. That should mean plenty out of the box, surpassing the requirements of earlier blockchain game titles.

Early access to the gaming hub for beta tests is slated for October. Gamers will then have to wait until the console goes on sale. "We expect the console to go on sale in Q2 2023," says Valentin Cobelea. Pre-orders begin in Q1 next year. The price of the console has not been disclosed in advance.
