BaFin adopts EU guidelines for DLT securities trading

The financial regulator BaFin fully applies the ESMA-published guidelines for DLT securities trading in its supervisory practice. This was announced in a press release.

The ESMA guidelines will make blockchain-based securities trading possible in the future. It remains to be seen whether this will be put into practice. "The guidelines are intended to set practices for the approval of DLT infrastructures within the European financial supervisory system," BaFin said. ESMA distinguishes between two types of applicants. There is one license for investment firms and one for central securities depositories.
