Bank of America Believes CBDCs Will Spark a Revolution

Digital central bank coins and stablecoins are the future of money, according to Bank of America. Meanwhile, the development of CBDCs is accelerating worldwide.

According to a Coindesk report, Bank of America published an analysis looking at the potential of digital central bank currencies and stablecoins. The analysis report concludes that CBDCs "could bring a new wave to global financial systems and could be the key technological advance in the history of money." They note that digital coins "won't redefine money, but they will likely change how and when value is transferred over the next 15 years."

Countries Will Start Recognizing CBDCs

Additionally, Bank of America expects financial authorities and central banks in both developed and developing countries to recognize the potential for wider use and the lower costs of blockchain-based coins, which will push development pressure even higher. The research team led by Alkesh Shah also acknowledges that CBDC use carries risks. These could spur competition with banks and impact countries aiming for independence and raise inequality between nations.

The development of digital central bank money is being guided worldwide by the governments of individual countries. Digital money is already being used in some cases.
