Will Bitcoin Soon Be a Campaign Topic in Canada?

Since Saturday, Bitcoin enthusiast Pierre Poilievre has been the new leader of the Canadian Conservative Party. It didn’t take long for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to critique Poilievre’s positions on Twitter.

The prime minister was critical of Poilievre and his positions: "saying that people have the choice to avoid inflation by investing their savings in volatile cryptocurrencies is not a sign of responsible leadership." Trudeau added: "Besides, anyone who follows that advice will see their savings evaporate."

That sparked a lot of discussions and heaps of criticism for Trudeau on Twitter. Canada’s economy isn’t looking good right now either. Poilievre, the new leader, won up to 68 percent of the votes. His opponent and runner-up got only 16 percent.

The party leader managed to win over voters with his positions. The 43-year-old has been known in the Bitcoin space for some time. In Canada, the cryptocurrency debate is a recurring topic. There was previously a laws and regulations scandal over cracking down on crypto. This means the Canadian government can decide which currencies people may or may not buy. So far approved: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.
