Bitcoin and Ethereum back in the green, Solana breaks out
Bitcoin investors could book a small gain on Wednesday morning, April 17.

On Wednesday morning, April 17, Bitcoin investors could book a small gain. Bitcoin is up about 1% on the day and sits at $84,200 at the time of writing. That puts Bitcoin's market cap at roughly $1.67 trillion. Ethereum follows Bitcoin's lead and also logs a modest gain. The second-largest crypto by market cap is trading at $1,595.
But Solana stands out today. With a nearly 5% daily rise, it's the best-performing top-10 altcoin. Over the week, SOL is even stronger: a 14% gain puts the price at $131.
Still, it's a Bitcoin-dominant season in crypto for now, meaning Bitcoin is outperforming most altcoins. Only fifteen altcoins have managed to beat BTC in the last 90 days. Those exceptions include Tron, the Trump-linked memecoin, and PAX Gold (PAXG).
PAXG has climbed an impressive 24% in three months, largely on the back of gold's ongoing rally. Since the start of the year, gold has continued to rise, now at a record high of $3,337 per troy ounce.
Investors and traders are watching two key macroeconomic events today: the European Central Bank's policy decision and U.S. initial jobless claims data.
Finally: for holders of the memecoin Official Trump (TRUMP), there's a big event today. According to Messari data, the token supply will expand by 20%, or 40 million new tokens to the market.
