Calm before the storm? The crypto market starts the week steady
The crypto market starts the week off quiet.

The crypto market starts the week off quietly. Bitcoin and other major cryptos stay steady, with price moves of only 0 to 1 percent in the last 24 hours. Still, over the week there’s clear gains: Bitcoin is up a whopping 13 percent and trades around $84,500.
Most other cryptocurrencies follow suit, with one big exception: the altcoin Mantra has cratered.
Despite the recovery in Bitcoin, institutional investors are still pulling back. The Bitcoin spot ETFs ended the second week in a row with net outflows, worth a few hundred million dollars. Still, there’s hope: Michael Saylor hinted in a tweet that his company Strategy will start buying Bitcoin again after a two-week pause. The Japanese company Metaplanet, often compared to Strategy, has bought 319 BTC and now holds a total of 4,525 Bitcoin.
What can investors expect now?
The latest price analysis discusses which levels investors should watch. Is the recent rebound sustainable, or is it just a temporary uptick?
Meanwhile, the number of active Bitcoin addresses has fallen: from nearly 1 million wallets at the start of the year to about 600,000 now, according to Glassnode data. Yet the total number of addresses with a positive Bitcoin balance is steadily growing, currently around 55 million.
With the price recovery, sentiment among investors improves. The Fear & Greed Index was mostly in the red last week at “extreme fear,” but has climbed to 31 points — still “fear,” but clearly better. A reading of 50 points is considered neutral.
For comparison: the U.S. stock market is currently at 13 points, so fear still dominates there. The crypto market remains tightly linked to the Nasdaq, the U.S. tech index, which closed down nearly 1.5% last Friday. U.S. markets open today at 3:30 p.m. (German time).
Both equities and crypto markets remain choppy. The cause? Concerns about a global recession, persistently high inflation, and Donald Trump’s chaotic trade agenda.
