Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis says it has for the first time succeeded in seizing stolen cryptocurrencies from the North Korean Lazarus hacking group. "With the help of law enforcement agencies and leading organizations in the crypto industry, more than $30 million in cryptocurrencies linked to North Korea-linked hackers has been seized," said Chainalysis.
The funds came from the Ronin Bridge attack in March 2022, which saw more than $600 million in cryptocurrencies stolen. Read more here. According to Chainalysis, advanced tracing techniques were used to track stolen funds to payout points. This involved cooperating with law enforcement agencies and players in the sector to quickly freeze the funds.
This year alone, North Korean hacker groups are said by Chainalysis to have stolen about $1 billion worth of cryptocurrencies from DeFi logs.
