Date set for the Ethereum Shapella upgrade

After successful testing of the upcoming Ethereum upgrade, developers have announced a date for the launch on the mainnet.

On April 12, the long-awaited Shapella upgrade was set to launch on Ethereum's mainnet. The upgrade will release Ether tied up in the protocol. "It enables validators to withdraw their stake from the Beacon Chain back to the execution layer," the Ethereum support team. Since the consensus mechanism shifted to proof-of-stake, investors can stake ETH in the protocol to earn a yield. These have so far been locked by a smart contract in the network.

Successful rollout on the test networks

The announcement comes after developers successfully carried out Shapella forks on the Goerli and Sepolia test networks. The Shapella upgrade combines changes to the execution layer (Shanghai), the consensus layer (Capella), and the engine-API.
