The drive for innovation at Cardano continues unabated. The latest developments are smart contracts written in Python.

The first Cardano smart contract, written in an innovative Python programming language named "Eopsin", was executed on a Cardano pre-production testnet. The development team behind the project, ImperatorLang, announced that the deal was successfully completed on January 10 and provided further details about the project.

The project aims to merge Python and Plutus

The project aims to merge Python with the Plutus smart-contract platform. Once Eopsin is fully operational, it intends to enable developers to write 100 percent valid Python programs using the existing Python tool stack, including syntax highlighting, debugging, unit testing, verification and more. The name "Eopsin" is derived from Korean mythology, where it is carried by the goddess of storage and wealth, appearing in the form of a serpent. "Since this project seeks to unite Python (a big snake) and Pluto/Plutus (the Greek gods of wealth), the name seems fitting," said the developers.

Although there is still work to optimize the project, it remains another example of Cardano’s development drive. At the same time, work is underway on the new side-chain "Midnight" and an algorithmic stablecoin.
