Human Rights Foundation backs Bitcoin projects with $325,000

In addition to censorship-resistant donations and crypto-sector outreach, the Human Rights Foundation aims to support several Bitcoin projects.

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) announced on Tuesday that it will fund several projects totaling $325,000 from its Bitcoin Development Fund, the nonprofit said in a press release.

According to the press release, the goal was to support "censorship-resistant donations, core development, open-source self-storage, Chaumian e-cash, and global education".

The "gifts" were distributed among eight groups involved in, for example, Bitcoin development or open-source applications.

With $100,000, BTCPay received the largest grant. "BTCPay enables activists and dissidents to accept uncensored, non-freezable global payments with Bitcoin in a relatively private way," HRF said.

With the Russian news agency Novaya Gazeta, which received about $25,000, they also want to explore the "connections between cryptocurrency and human rights in the context of Putin's war against Ukraine". In the past two years they have been able to distribute more than $1.5 million in BTC and US dollars.
