Hunter Biden Launches LAPTOP Memecoin on Base

The Base token ties airdrops and vesting to political references, with TRUMP as the benchmark. A large share of the supply will stay locked for now.

Hunter Biden Launches LAPTOP Memecoin on Base

Key Takeaways

  • Hunter Biden is launching the LAPTOP memecoin on Base on September 9 with a total supply of 1 billion tokens.
  • Founders will get 30% combined, 20% will be airdropped, and 30% can be burned at preset milestones.
  • LAPTOP uses TRUMP as a reference point, while the launch is drawing extra political and cultural attention.

Hunter Biden, the son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, is launching a memecoin called LAPTOP on Base on September 9. The token will have a total supply of 1 billion and, according to the plan, will be partly distributed to early supporters, while a large share of the allocation will only become tradable later.

Distribution and Vesting

According to the plan, the founders, including Biden, will receive 30% of the tokens combined. Those tokens will not be sellable for six months and will then be released over more than two years. Another 20% will be airdropped in two rounds. That will go to wallets that are losing money on the TRUMP memecoin, to subscribers of Biden's Substack, and to a mailing list from his friend Andrew Callaghan.

The remaining 30% of the supply will be burned if certain goals are reached. Those include a Democratic election win in 2028, a new all-time high for Bitcoin, or a market cap for LAPTOP that rises above TRUMP's. Biden later showed the ticker on X, along with images and news clips about his infamous laptop, which he left at a repair shop in Delaware in 2019.

TRUMP as the Benchmark

The choice of TRUMP as the comparison point is notable because that memecoin briefly became one of the biggest political tokens of 2025 in early 2025. The coin reached a market cap of $15 billion (€12.9 billion) at the time, but has since fallen back to about $600 million (€516 million).

At the same time, the political weight around these kinds of tokens remains high. The disclosed figures from Donald Trump show that he made $1.4 billion (€1.2 billion) last year from crypto and memecoin activities. That makes the launch of LAPTOP not just another memecoin story, but also a new test case for how politics and crypto are increasingly blending in the United States.

Why This Matters for Crypto

For European crypto followers, this launch shows how memecoins are increasingly being used as political and cultural statements, not just speculative tokens. The mix of a well-known name, an airdrop structure, and a burn mechanism can draw extra attention, but it still says nothing about lasting demand or usage. For readers, the main point is that these kinds of tokens often get a lot of attention fast, while the underlying value and supply distribution remain just as important.
