Iran imports goods with cryptocurrencies
Iran pays its first-ever import order with cryptocurrencies.

Iran has paid the first import order in its history with cryptocurrencies. The transaction is part of a broader strategy.
Iran continues to look for ways to bypass Western sanctions and apparently relies on cryptocurrencies. As a representative from the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade announced on View post on X, the Islamic Republic reportedly placed an import order worth ten million U.S. dollars in crypto.
It is unclear which cryptocurrency was used for the purchase, as well as the type of goods. The import of cryptos currently taking place is part of a broader strategy. Iran already approved imports and exports using cryptocurrencies as far back as January.
Additionally, by the end of September, “cryptocurrencies and smart contracts should be used in foreign trade with selected countries.” It is not precisely known which countries those are. Allies sanctioned by the West, such as Russia or Syria, could also be involved.
Overall, Iran appears to be opening up more to crypto. Because of energy shortages, the country cracked down hard on crypto miners last year. By September, it had loosened its grip.
