Iran sought to pay for killing Trump's adviser with cryptocurrency

Iran wanted to have former Trump adviser John Bolton killed. The payment would be made in a cryptocurrency.

A hitman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps would kill John Bolton (the former national security adviser to Donald Trump) and be paid later in cryptocurrency. Reuters, citing the U.S. Department of Justice, reports this.

The Bolton killing would be retaliation for the death of Qassem Soleimani. In January 2020, the U.S. used a drone to kill the former head of the Revolutionary Guards.

The planned plot against Bolton came to light after the Iranian requester contacted an FBI informant. According to the informant, the assassination would take place in Washington, D.C., or Maryland. Iran allegedly scoped out Bolton's home using an online mapping service. The Revolutionary Guard member and client Shahram Poursafi demanded only a proof video of Bolton's death. The FBI is now looking for the 45-year-old.
