Mercedes-Benz launches Polygon-based data platform

A real-time data exchange is becoming increasingly important in the automotive sector. Mercedes-Benz's Southeast Asia division relies on blockchain technology for this purpose. With the platform "Acentrik" they aim to make buying and selling data more transparent. Mercedes has been working on this since 2020. Acentrik entered beta in 2021.

The blockchain used is Polygon, which is an Ethereum sidechain. Concretely, Acentrik stores encrypted metadata on the blockchain, which users can upload and offer via cloud services like AWS (Amazon Web Services). The platform uses the stablecoin USDC as the medium of exchange. The data is then issued as an NFT (Non-Fungible Token). The entire transaction process is handled via smart contracts.

Transparent real-time data exchange is essential for mobility of the future, such as autonomous driving. In this regard, blockchain sounds like an excellent solution.
