Republicans ramp up pressure on Gary Gensler

The Republican Party is applying pressure on SEC chief Gary Gensler to release information about the indictment against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. Two top Republicans are calling on the SEC chief to release more information.

Chairman Patrick McHenry of the House Financial Services Committee and Bill Huizenga, head of the committee's oversight panel, say this in an April 12 letter. Specifically, they are urging the release of a staff memo recommending the indictment against Bankman-Fried.

"If the requested information is not released, the committee could compel a subpoena to obtain the requested information," the document says. The Republicans are pushing to release all SEC communications related to Bankman-Fried, from the FTX collapse through his arrest. Communications between the agency and the Justice Department about coordinating his criminal prosecution should also be released.

McHenry and Huizenga have given Gensler an ultimatum to Monday, April 17 to do this. A day before his hearing.
