The price of the recently launched blockchain project Aptos (APT) has risen a little over 30% since Saturday. That comes from data from CoinGecko. From about $7.50 on Saturday, Aptos climbed to $10.12 later in the weekend. The price is now hovering around $9.4. Coinalyze data point to a so-called "short squeeze" where many traders get liquidated as they bet against the token's price. The APT token continues its volatile run since listing. At market open last week the token had already fallen as much as 40 percent on some trading platforms.
On October 17, the Aptos team announced the launch of its mainnet. The APT token went live on major exchanges with mixed feelings from the broader crypto community. Some criticized not only the team’s Facebook history but also a lack of transparency and access for small investors. In response to the critique, Aptos dropped new APT tokens to certain users over the weekend.
