XRP Ledger Batch Upgrade Delayed by 10 Days

Key Takeaways

  • The XRP Ledger Batch upgrade is delayed by at least 10 days after validator support fell below the required threshold.
  • BatchV1_1 is meant to bundle up to eight transactions and got support again on September 25 from 30 of the 35 trusted validators.
  • PermissionDelegationV1_1 was also delayed after the required support temporarily dropped away.

The planned XRP Ledger Batch upgrade is delayed by at least 10 days after validator support briefly fell below the required threshold. The feature was supposed to go live on September 29, but the countdown has started over and now puts the earliest activation on October 9, if support holds.

Batch Gets Another Delay

BatchV1_1 is meant to let users bundle up to eight transactions into one. In practice, that can help a buyer pay for and receive a tokenized asset in a single operation, so neither side of the transaction can move forward separately.

According to the XRP Ledger amendments dashboard, the upgrade got support again on September 25 from 30 of the 35 trusted validators. That started a new two-week period. The network requires more than 80% support from trusted validators for two straight weeks before a change is activated.

Why The Threshold Matters

That 80% rule is a safety measure in the consensus model of the XRP Ledger. If support dips below the line even briefly, the accumulated time resets right away, even if the votes come back shortly after. That makes upgrade activation intentionally slow and cautious.

The Batch upgrade already had a history. The original version was pulled earlier after developers found a critical bug in the signature-checking. The corrected version appeared in August in ledger software version 3.3.0. At an earlier stage, the Batch upgrade was already almost ready for activation, but then the final validator vote still had to come in.

More Features Are Still Waiting

RippleX head of engineering Ayo Akinyele said earlier that projects were already being built around Batch. He did not name partners or launch dates, but he did say activation would bring the work closer to production. For European crypto followers, the main point is that the XRP Ledger is aiming for more practical features for payments and tokenized assets, while the rollout is also being closely watched for security and network stability.

A separate upgrade, PermissionDelegationV1_1, was also delayed. That feature is meant to let a company delegate certain tasks to another account without sharing the keys to its own funds. There too, the earliest activation was pushed back after the required support temporarily disappeared. That change also fits into the broader set of restored XRPL features that were put back up for a vote after earlier security issues.
