Zilliqa launches a Web 3.0 console with an integrated wallet that can also be used to mine tokens. The pre-sale starts in 2023.

Blockchain and gaming: so far it's been a somewhat one-sided love affair. Still, Zilliqa is focusing on the interface, and a console has to keep the balance: Web 3.0, gaming, and mining in one — can it work?

Earn money while gaming

As a multimedia interface, the Zilliqa-console will not only enable gaming and streaming. Mining should also be possible. With an integrated wallet, the earned tokens can be converted to fiat immediately. Play-to-earn fans should get their fill.

But does this apply to game lovers? Blockchain games have so far lagged in quality behind the conventional video game market. The play-to-earn doctrine has produced a few uninspired titles that, at best, resemble mobile games. It remains to be seen whether the standard will improve with the Zilliqa console.

The lineup would mostly consist of in-house games. "But the potential to add other blockchains to the platform to boost interoperability and overall marketplace growth was discussed," said Valentin Cobelea, Head of Gaming Technology at Zilliqa. In other words, the console is meant to represent as broad a portfolio of Web 3.0 games as possible, including third-party providers.

Zilliqa-console hits the market in 2023

The Zilliqa-console won’t match next-gen systems like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but it will offer a lot more capabilities. According to Cobelea, the console ships with an Nvidia 1650 GPU and an Intel i9 processor. The frame rate is expected to be 60 FPS, at 1440p resolution. That should let you get a lot out of the box, surpassing the requirements of earlier blockchain game titles.

Early access to the gaming hub for beta tests will be released in October. Gamers will then have to wait until the console goes on sale. "We expect the console to go on sale in Q2 2023," says Valentin Cobelea. Pre-orders start in Q1 next year. We weren’t told upfront how much the console will cost.
