Market cycle
A market cycle is a period when prices in the crypto market rise and then fall, or the other way around. These movements can repeat, but never in exactly the same way.
What is a market cycle?
A market cycle often consists of several phases. In a bull market, prices usually rise. In a bear market, they usually fall.
A cycle often begins with little interest and low prices. Then confidence may grow, and more people buy crypto. After prices rise sharply, some people sell to take profits. The price may then fall, and fear may set in.
News, emotions, the economy, and government regulations can affect a cycle. Bitcoin often plays a major role because other cryptocurrencies often move along with it. The Bitcoin halving can also have an impact. A market cycle isn’t a fixed pattern and doesn’t predict future prices.
A simple example of a market cycle
Imagine positive news leads more people to buy Bitcoin. The price rises slowly. Others see the increase and buy out of FOMO, the fear of missing out.
The price rises further, but some holders sell to take profits. If more people then sell out of fear, the price can fall quickly. This shows how optimism and fear can combine to form a market cycle.
Why is a market cycle important in crypto?
In crypto news, a market cycle is used to explain why the market is broadly rising or falling. You might read about a bull market, a bear market, a possible peak, or a new bottom.
The crypto market can move faster and more sharply than traditional markets. As a result, the different phases can have a big impact on prices. Altcoins can sometimes rise more sharply than Bitcoin, but they can also fall more sharply.
Patterns from previous cycles offer no guarantees. Major events, regulations, and economic changes can alter how a cycle unfolds. A market cycle can help you understand market movements, but not predict the next price.
