Trading bot
A trading bot is a computer program that automatically buys and sells crypto. It follows rules you set in advance.
What is a trading bot?
A trading bot monitors the crypto market for you and can trade around the clock on a crypto exchange. That way, you don’t have to keep checking prices yourself.
For example, you can set the price at which the bot should buy or sell. To do this, you often give the bot access to your account using an API key: a digital key that lets the bot trade on your behalf.
Most bots follow set rules. Not every trading bot uses AI or learns from its past decisions. A bot can also lose money, and it doesn’t guarantee a profit.
An example of a trading bot
Suppose you set a bot to buy Bitcoin when its price reaches a level you choose. You also set it to sell when the price is higher.
Once those prices are reached, the bot automatically carries out the orders. This shows that the bot doesn’t make decisions on its own; it follows the rules you set.
Why are trading bots important in crypto?
Trading bots come up in discussions about automated trading and trading strategies. They can trade without emotion and are always active, but that doesn’t mean their decisions are automatically good.
Pay close attention to the risks. The crypto market can move quickly, which means a bot can lose money. Bots can also cost money to use, for example through transaction fees.
Also be cautious of providers that promise guaranteed profits. Scammers may try to gain access to your account or crypto. So make sure you check who provides the bot, and only share access with someone you trust.
