After a Twitter poll turned against him, Elon Musk has now announced his resignation as Twitter's CEO.

Earlier this week, Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk asked Twitter users whether he should step down as Twitter's CEO, saying he would abide by the results. The poll went against Musk — the majority voted for his resignation. After he threatened yesterday to return, he now seems serious. He wrote: "I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone dumb enough to take the job! Then I’ll just run the software and server teams."

Only paying users may vote from now on

Earlier, a Twitter user posted the View post on X suggesting that only paying users (the ones who pay $8 per month for the blue check) should have the right to vote — after all, they have something to lose. Musk immediately conceded: "Good point. Twitter will change that." Whether Elon Musk will leave his post as boss because the Twitter community doesn’t trust him with the job, or because his leadership style has raised questions about how he runs his other companies, remains unclear for now.

What’s certain is that Tesla has lost about 20 percent of its stock price since his takeover through Twitter, and major shareholders are also calling for his resignation as CEO of the electric automaker.
