FIFA launches World Cup NFT platform
FIFA launches its own NFT platform in collaboration with blockchain Algorand.

FIFA launches its own NFT platform in collaboration with blockchain Algorand. This was announced by the football association in a press release. FIFA+ Collect will offer iconic moments on the blockchain. The launch is planned for September 2022.
On the NFT platform, people can buy and collect special and iconic moments from World Cup history as NFTs, similar to the popular NBA Top Shot collection.
"Fan demographics are changing and soccer fans around the world are engaging with the sport in new and exciting ways," says Romy Gai, Chief Business Officer of FIFA. The federation is using Algorand, which in June was named the official FIFA blockchain.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar and starts in November 2022. Last week Meta unlocked several NFT options on social media giants Instagram and Facebook. Despite this news, the NFT market is pretty dead at the moment. On OpenSea, the most popular NFT marketplace, trading volume has fallen 95 percent since January.
