Sam Bankman-Fried's parents have paid part of the historic $250 million bail. They were also involved in FTX's collapse.
The U.S. federal judge Lewis Kaplan has filed several motions to reveal the identities of two co-signers who had not been named earlier. Now it's clear: Four people paid the bail - two of them are the parents, Barbara Fried and Joseph Bankman. In the bail bond, Kaplan explains: "The non-parental guarantors stepped into a high-profile criminal case voluntarily by signing the individual bail bonds."
Earlier this month, several news outlets, including the New York Times, Bloomberg, and the Wall Street Journal, urged the court to release the sponsors' identities. Meanwhile, some close relatives of Sam Bankman-Fried refuse to cooperate with authorities.
Sam Bankman-Friend pressures former colleagues
Recently the U.S. Department of Justice asked for a communications injunction against Bankman-Fried. He had tried to pressure former colleagues and FTX's chief attorney via text messages. Bankman-Fried has entered a not guilty plea on eight counts and is set to stand trial in October.
