Solana launches its own smartphone. The first Web3 mobile phone is slated to launch in mid-April.
The launch of the "Saga" smartphone is planned for April 13, 2023. In a View post on X, Solana announced a corresponding launch event. The mobile phone is intended to be integrated with the Solana blockchain, allowing users to manage tokens and NFTs on their smartphone.
In addition, private keys and seed phrases can be securely stored with the help of a vault built into the phone. The Solana smartphone costs about 1,000 US dollars.
In the run-up, the project faced both criticism and some excitement. The mobile phone was already showcased at the Solana conference "Breakpoint" in Lisbon. A visitor there said in an interview that the smartphone is basically just an Android phone with pre-installed Solana apps.
Some users urged Solana to focus first on "getting the blockchain to work". The network has previously faced repeated outages, such as system outages.
